Brand
MKSTokorozawa, Japan · Since 1943
MKS is the pedal brand of Mikashima Industrial (三ヶ島製作所) in Tokorozawa, Saitama, Japan. Founded in 1943 as an aircraft component maker, the company switched to bicycle pedals in 1946 and was incorporated in 1949. To this day it makes its pedals end to end in its own factory: forging, pressing, machining, heat treatment and assembly.
MKS pedals are not flashy. Instead they have precisely machined bodies and spindles, hand-adjusted cup-and-cone bearings, and a construction you can still take apart and rebuild decades later. That is why MKS has long been the default choice on classic road and touring bikes, fixed gears and everyday bicycles.

Craft
The pedal is the part of a bicycle that is stepped on most and knocked most often. So MKS makes pedals not as consumables but as parts you service and keep using: open the bearings, repack the grease, replace only what is worn, tighten them up and ride again.
Japanese keirin allows only parts that pass strict standards and carry NJS approval, and MKS is currently the only approved maker of keirin pedals. The precision built up in racers’ pedals carries straight through to touring pedals and city flat pedals.

Every spindle, the heart of the pedal, is cold-forged in our own factory, then heat-treated in-house for a hard surface and a tough core.

Skilled technicians adjust every cup-and-cone bearing by hand. Top NJS-approved models are set up with spacers as thin as 0.03 mm.

Pedals under the feet of some 2,400 professional keirin racers. MKS is currently the only NJS-approved keirin pedal.

Bodies are die-cast in ADC6 aluminium, harder to form than the common ADC12 but more resistant to impact and corrosion.

“We just had to make good products, regardless of what other people say.” That is how the chairman likes to describe where MKS began.
MKS has been led by the Ogino family since its founding. In 1946 there were an estimated 40 pedal makers in Japan; only two remain today, and MKS is one of them. The forging, heat treatment and assembly skills built on pedals now also serve automotive parts production.
From the era of quill pedals and toe clips to wide flat pedals and quick-release systems, the MKS range has grown with the way bicycles are used. The principle stays the same: pedals that spin well, last long and can be repaired.

Classic Quill
SylvanSylvan
Sylvan is MKS's signature quill pedal: thin metal cages support the shoe, with the body and spindle running between them in the traditional way. It looks most at home on vintage road bikes, randonneurs and fixed gears.
It comes in three versions by use: Road, Touring and Track. Road and Track are single-sided pedals used with toe clips and straps, while Touring can be ridden on either side, making it easy in regular shoes. All three have serviceable cup-and-cone bearings.

Toe Clips & Straps
Sylvan Road and Track come into their own with toe clips and straps. The foot sits in the same place on the pedal every time, and you can use both the push and the pull. MKS also makes toe clips to match its pedals.
Even now that clipless pedals are common, many riders choose Sylvans with toe clips. You can ride in regular shoes, and they keep the bicycle's silhouette clean.

Platform · Touring
LambdaLambda
Lambda is a double-sided platform pedal that supports the whole sole of the foot. Rows of studs line its wide cage, so even on long rides in regular shoes without clips, the foot stays planted.
Long-distance touring, bikepacking and the daily commute. It is the first pedal MKS recommends to riders who do not wear clipless shoes.
A broad surface that supports the whole foot. Load is spread evenly, so feet stay comfortable on long rides.
Either side can be stepped on, so it is easy in stop-and-go city riding.
Trainers, hiking shoes, even dress shoes. The surface pattern holds the sole securely.
There is also the tool-free Lambda Ezy Superior, handy when taking a touring bike on a train or in a car.

Commuters, minivelos, folding bikes, the bike you take to the shops. A bike you ride every day needs pedals that work with any shoe, are easy to step onto and last. The MKS city line is made for those bicycles.
Allways with its broad platform, Urban Platform made for the city, and GR-9 with its classic silhouette. Different shapes, all made in the same Tokorozawa factory.

A double-sided flat pedal for the bike you use every day. Its tidy shape and wide platform suit any bicycle.

A platform pedal for city riding. Looks clean on minivelos and city bikes.

An aluminium platform pedal with a classic silhouette. Suits everyday and touring bikes.

For every day
The pedal is one of the three places your body touches the bicycle. Change the pedals, as with the saddle and bars, and the whole bike feels different: bearings that spin smoothly, a platform that does not slip, a construction that does not work loose over time.
Allways and Urban Platform also come in EZY Superior versions, so you can take the pedals off when folding a bike or storing it in a tight space.

Quick Release
EZY SystemEZY System
EZY is MKS’s own detachable pedal system. Fit the dedicated adapter to the crank once, and from then on the pedal comes off and goes back on by hand, without tools. There are two versions: the original Ezy and the further developed Ezy Superior.
When folding a bike smaller, taking it on a train or in a car, or storing it in a narrow hallway or on a wall, the pedals are no longer in the way. Many models, including Sylvan, Lambda and Allways, come in EZY versions.

Fit the EZY adapter to the crank once. The first fitting needs a thin pedal spanner (15 mm wide, 3.2 mm thick or less).
Fit the pedal onto the adapter and it is secured. No tools needed.
When needed, take the pedal off quickly by hand. The adapter stays on the crank.
